The NSERC VCO research network is one of four new
Strategic Networks supported by FPInnovations. The network serves
to bring academic, government and industry researchers together to
focus their efforts.
The NSERC VCO Network aims to provide the industry and policy makers
with new advanced planning and decision support systems to design
and deploy optimized from a global value chain perspective.
FPInnovations is involved in the planning and orientation of the
network. It also plays a key role in transferring the research results
to the industry and policy makers. |

The ForValueNet research network develops
a series of new and integrated models to simulate and optimize the
forest-wood value chain. More specifically, three integrated model
pools will be developed:
-
Process-based stand/tree/crown growth model
-
3-D stem quality (stem geometry/wood characteristics
models
-
Primary and value-added product recovery
models
The integration of these models will lead to the
development of integrated, value-based decision-support systems to
optimize wood manufacturing processes and harvesting schedules/decisions.
Also, the integrated models will serve as valuable tools for silvicultural
planning aimed at enhancing forest value. |

NEWBuildS is a multi-disciplinary
NSERC strategic research Network for Engineered Wood-based Building Systems.
Although the wood industry is a mainstay of the Canadian economy,
revenues have been focused on products intended for construction
and renovation of low-rise residential buildings. The goal of NEWBuildS
is to advance scientific knowledge and construction technologies
that will enable wood-based products to be used in mid-rise and non-residential
construction, or integrated into hybridized construction. The research
program of NEWBuildS has been established in collaboration with FPInnovations,
the wood industry and design community, and is organized into four
linked research themes:
- Cross laminated timber
(CLT) – material characterization and structural
performance
- Hybrid building systems – structural
performance
- Building systems – fire
performance, acoustic and vibration serviceability
- Building systems – durability,
sustainability and enhanced products
